Steward Convention 2003
During
November 14-15, stewards from almost every KTL terminal met in Saskatoon at the
Radisson Hotel for the Annual Steward's Convention.
The Convention was a resounding success!
It was a great opportunity for your executive to talk face to face and share opinions and ideas.
There were three National Representatives present. Gord Hunter from Regina, Jukka Sokkanen from Edmonton and Paul McKie from Winnipeg. They offered much in the way of advice when there were any doubts about rules, labour issues or other issues. Outside of the Convention they offer stewards a close phone call if they ever have trouble at their terminals. They have a wealth of knowledge surrounding the labour movement, and have experience dealing with other locals that they represent as well. A big thank you for attending our convention!
One
returning steward and two new stewards joined the executive this year.
Stuart Wells in Calgary returned for another term after a hiatus. Travis
Ball in Edmonton and Steve Smith in Regina are new stewards and we look forward
to working with them in the future!
Paul Richard stepped down as President this year, but is staying on as Chief Shop Steward. Kevin McLeod who was Vice-President, is replacing him as President. Blaine Stevens is taking over as Vice-President.
Many issues on the table included the presently unsigned collective agreement, grievances, amendments to the local's constitution, OH&S concerns and improving communication.
There
were no lack of opinions expressed this year, which was a refreshing
change. Every steward brought to the table an opinion or an idea of how we
can improve our local, and left with a positive feeling of a job well done.
We look forward to implementing some of the new ideas in the future. Look for some changes in our local in regards to more information to our members and better access to the executive for those members that aren't able to talk meet with them easily.
Looking forward to next year!
